Island Flavors on the Move

Finding the perfect breakfast in West Maui usually means waiting in a line that snakes around the block, but 808 Grindz Cafe brings that same beloved local energy to a mobile kitchen. This food truck serves up plate-lunch-style morning meals that prioritize substance and local comfort. You will smell the sweet, caramelized aroma of coconut syrup hitting hot griddle cakes from halfway down the lot.

The Mokupuni Morning Ritual

The menu leans heavily into Hawaii's comfort food staples. Their signature Moco—a generous mountain of rice topped with a thick, juicy beef patty, savory gravy, and eggs cooked to your preference—is the gold standard here. If you prefer something lighter, the macadamia nut pancakes offer a satisfying crunch that pairs perfectly with the humid Lahaina morning air. It is the kind of food that keeps you fueled for a long day of snorkeling or hiking the West Maui Mountains.

Know Before You Go

While the food is stellar, remember that this is al fresco dining at its finest. You are eating on a curb or a nearby bench, so be prepared for a bit of wind whipping through the palm trees. It is a no-frills setup for people who value a quick, filling, and authentic island breakfast over fancy china or air conditioning. Keep in mind that parking near food trucks in this part of Lahaina can get tricky during the peak tourist rush, so arriving early is your best bet to secure a spot and grab your tray before the mid-morning crowd hits.

Fantastic and worth the stop. Wish we would have found 808 Grindz on the first day of our trip. This is a food truck (restaurant burned down). Cash or Venmo only. Excellent breakfast “all day” restaurant. Outdoor picnic table seating. Or take home. The menu is classic Hawaiian with a few twists like the crab cakes, steak and rib Moco loco and poached eggs. Upgrade to the fried rice versions. Worth it. Great flavors. Like their food better than Kihei Cafe nearby. And 808 Grindz is a lot less $$. Great value for money. Friendly and cheerful staff. We will come Back for the pancakes!!

The best breakfast in Lāhainā! The macadamia nut pancake with Macnilla sauce is to die for and they have our favorite loco moco on the island. The service is fantastic and there are covered picnic tables to eat your food. We first visited their restaurant before the fires and had an incredible experience. Now they’re in a food truck and everything was just as we remembered it. We were so happy to see they were open and order some of our favorite food on Maui.

Haven’t gone to a place that has be say “wow” in a while. The macadamia pancakes are a 5 star full stop. That sauce is killer! The hash browns are super good. I also got an omelette. The coffee was fire🔥. Good POG. Friendly mom and pop shop that is worth your visit!
