The Food Company
About
A Neighborhood Kitchen in the Heart of Kailua
Walking into The Food Company feels like stepping into a friend’s kitchen, provided that friend is an expert at sourcing fresh, local island ingredients. Located right in the bustling center of Kailua town, this spot has built a reputation for being the go-to deli for residents who prefer quality over pre-packaged convenience.
Why Locals Keep Coming Back
The space is unpretentious and focuses entirely on the food. You will often find the line winding toward the door during the lunch rush, as professionals and surfers alike crowd in for their daily specials. The menu changes frequently, but their reputation rests on thick, hearty sandwiches, vibrant salads, and house-made dressings that hit the spot after a morning at Lanikai Beach.
If you are a fan of savory comfort, watch for their daily soup rotations. The steam rising from the counter carries the scent of fresh herbs and simmering stocks that cut through the salty breeze from the windward coast. The interior is functional and no-frills, which means it can get quite loud during the midday peak, so it is better suited for a quick, high-quality bite than a quiet romantic dinner.
The Island Deli Approach
What sets this place apart is the commitment to local sourcing. You aren't getting generic, mass-produced lunch meat here; instead, you get thick-cut roasts and seasonal produce that reflects the bounty of Oahu. Keep in mind that seating is limited and parking in the surrounding lots can be a bit of a dance during peak hours, but once you get that first bite of a signature sandwich, the minor logistical hurdles fade away. Whether you are grabbing a quick meal before heading out to the shore or picking up catering for a family gathering, it remains a pillar of the Kailua food scene.

Good luck trying to pick just one item of food. Such a good spot to grab a bento and head to Lanikai or any beach for that matter. There are desserts as well. So many healthy options.

Absolutely delicious! I'm completely hooked on their food. Having sampled various items like bentos, musubis, and salads, their breakfast is undeniably outstanding. Tried the steak and eggs – incredibly reasonable in price, and the steak was among the best I've ever had. Even my mom enjoyed her omelette. A definite go-to spot for a delightful and satisfying meal.

This takeout only serves cook to order bentos. We tried the NY steak plate and a chicken kotsu/mochico chicken bento. The steak was seasoned well and it was very close to the medium rare that I prefer. The chicken was on the dry and tough to chew side, but flavors were decent. The service was friendly and quick. Since there were no place to eat at this shopping center, so we took our lunch to Kailua Beach, which was about 7-8 minutes away.

We originally came here while driving around the island to get a basic lunch. We ended up ordering so much food. And we finished it all. The sashimi was great and the bulls were great and so where the desert. I was shocked at how much take out people take from this place. The lady who works at the front is amazing to deal with. In the entire island of Oahu, this was one of my most favorite places. It is a place that locals love.

The best food I had in Hawaii hands down. Really enjoyed the meal and kind service. Highly recommend everyone to try it, looks like quite a lot of locals go here too and prices are reasonable. Had the korean fried chicken loco mocco and it was to die for. Amazing sauce, fresh chicken and great noodles. Well done guys.

This was one of my favorite plate lunch experiences in Hawaii! The lau lau + kalua pork combo (available on Fridays) was perfectly seasoned and cooked, tasting just like a home-cooked meal. Large portions and reasonable prices as well. The staff are very friendly too! Entrance is shared with a bar if you are coming from the front and it might look closed at first, but they are open!
