Teddy's Bigger Burgers - Kailua
About
A Burger Institution in Windward Oahu
Walking into Teddy's Bigger Burgers in the heart of Kailua, you are immediately greeted by the sizzling sound of fresh patties hitting the high-heat broiler. This is not your typical fast-food joint; it is a local staple that has been serving the Windward side since the brand launched its mission to revive the authentic 1950s burger joint experience. The air is thick with the savory scent of charbroiled beef and toasted brioche buns, a sensory promise of what’s to come.
Crafting the Perfect Char
The menu centers on their signature 5oz, 7oz, and 9oz patties, each seasoned with a proprietary blend of spices. What sets them apart is the 'Super Sauce'—a creamy, tangy secret recipe that elevates their classic burgers to a cult favorite. Many regulars swear by the 'Kailua' specialty, or keeping it simple with a classic cheeseburger topped with fresh, crisp lettuce, tomato, and onion. Don't be surprised if you find yourself waiting a few extra minutes during the lunch rush; everything is cooked to order, ensuring your patty remains juicy rather than sitting under a heat lamp.
The Local Vibe
Located conveniently for those coming off the beach or heading to Lanikai, the seating area is casual and unpretentious. You will often see sun-bleached hair and board shorts, reflecting the laid-back Kailua lifestyle. Be aware that during peak weekend hours, the small parking lot can get tight, and the dining area fills up with hungry beach-goers. It is the ideal spot for a quick, high-quality bite where the focus is strictly on the flavor of the meat and the quality of the ingredients. Whether you are grabbing a quick lunch before heading back to the waves or settling in for a hearty dinner, the experience remains grounded in high-quality, island-inspired comfort food.

$40 combo, longer wait gave me the expectation that the burger would at a minimum have some flavor. But what I ended up with was a rare, soggy, bland double burger. Salt and pepper was added by me to lift up any remaining flavor, still a stale griddle taste to the cheese and burger. I’m happy that the portions are balanced with the price, but the fries are a mess, likely a quarter pound of bacon bits, why not just deep fry some bacon and chop it up. The cheese wiz is too generous, maybe even more cheese than potatoe. Service received a 4/5 bc after welcoming me and starting my order ; mid order cashier reverted to previous customer for a question about his receipt, young cashier , small issue, but his attention made me feel like the burger was rare bc he failed to ask me or inform me about how the burger would be cooked. I’d like to inquire about a full refund, or a redo to this $40 meal for one, I paid expecting at least a satisfying cheat meal, not a disappointing regretful expensive (wait) grab and go. 2/5 for the lack of flavor 4/5 service for the above comments 4/5 atmosphere after the wait you start to see and realize all the dust above you. Hoping to hear back Aloha

Great food, huge portions. Does take a while to make but that’s a good thing. Just order far ahead if you want to avoid a longer wait than most establishments. Love sitting outside in Kailua when the weather permits.

The staff is generally pretty kind and helpful with questions. We got our order to go and went and ate by the beach. The burgers were good. They are definitely way better fresh and hot at the restaurant. We got two things of their special sauce and just beware it is a dollar per small little cup of their special sauce. The fries were pretty good but the sauce made them worth eating.

A fantastic burger with 3 sizes to satisfy anything from a mid day snack to a full on hangery man. Always cooked to order, I like mine medium, you get yours how you like it. Personally I don't think the upgrades are worth $5, the original Teddy burger already has all the fixings, but if you're here and you want something unique then go for it, it's only 5 bucks more. Really a good price for the value of a superb burger when compared to other places on the island (everything here cost a little more, no matter where you go). This spot has a nice patio if you want some sun and fresh air while you eat. 5 stars, would recommend, will return

I’ve been here a few times usually with no issues but this time they completely screwed up one of the orders. Instead of a burger I got chicken wrapped in lettuce. I didn’t realize until I got home and didn’t have time to go back. Very frustrating. It also took almost 40 minutes for two things and not a very busy restaurant. The other food we got was also cooked overcooked and wasn’t nearly as good as usual.

Great place for burgers and Hawaii flavor, staff was nice and good for Japanese and Korean menus! The best is gluten free options for actual buns, it was the best burger I’ve had in a while, (non-homemade) and it was great quality. The busy-ness and options we picked like onion rings made it have a bit of wait time, but the staff said “30 minutes” but ended up coming out in 20, so overestimation is always better to be surprised, but it was worth the wait, I want to eat there again during my stay!

As a vegetarian, disappointed they discontinued the beyond burger but the garden burger was pretty good. Overall though, the burger and grilled cheese were both on the dry side and the flavor was just average — not bad but not great either. The umami fries were pretty good.

The perfect burger place to go after the beach! The fries and tater tots are both delicious sides. We tried the volcano burger and it was just the right amount of spice. Be prepared to get a little messy! Lol, the burgers are stuffed.

Decided to stop in after years of driving by. Decided to get a burger and asked for it Medium Well cooked. I don’t know why they asked me but it was more like Rare than anything I have ever had. Guess I should have asked for well done. Burger was ok but the thought of it not cooked took the taste out of my mouth. Fries were ok nothing really special. They were missing flavor. I don’t think we will go back but at least I can say I tried it.
