Moke's Bread and Breakfast
About
A Kailua Morning Institution
When you find yourself in the heart of Kailua, the morning rush at Moke's Bread and Breakfast is a local rite of passage. This casual, no-frills spot is where residents trade gossip over steaming mugs of coffee while the scent of griddled butter fills the air. It’s an unpretentious space—expect a bit of a wait on weekend mornings and the occasional lively chatter bouncing off the walls—but the trade-off is breakfast food that feels personal.
Signature Flavors from Chef Moke
Chef Moke is widely celebrated for putting his own spin on island classics. The runaway star of the menu is undoubtedly the lilikoi pancakes. These aren't your typical syrupy flapjacks; they arrive topped with a vibrant, tart passion fruit glaze that balances perfectly against the fluffy, golden-brown cakes. If you prefer something savory, the loco moco is a masterclass in comfort, featuring a house-made gravy that locals consistently seek out.
Why the Locals Keep Returning
Moke’s operates with a rhythmic efficiency that keeps the line moving. It’s the kind of place best suited for those who appreciate a straightforward, hearty start to their day in windward Oahu. Whether you are grabbing a quick bite before hitting the nearby beaches or settling in for a long, slow Sunday brunch, the atmosphere remains grounded in authentic island hospitality. Pro tip: if you arrive during peak hours, keep an eye on the street parking nearby, as it can get a bit competitive.

This was one of the best lunches Ive had in Hawaii!! Lilikoi pancakes are perfectly fruity, sweet and sour, moco loco is just that comfort food you're looking for. Delicious You have to do street parking as they dont have their own parking space and parking in the plaza thats in front of the restaurant might get your car towed as we were told by one of the hosts.

Good menu that feels truly local. Warm service and fast too! We had the lilikoi pancake as a side and it was so good. Not too sweet, and light and fluffy. Crispy hash browns and normal portions, not so much you can’t finish. The fried rice was good too. Highly recommend.

This spot is great for breakfast if you’re driving around the area. I got the Loco Moco, which had really good gravy flavor, and the lilikoi pancakes, which were drizzled with an amazing lilikoi sauce. Honestly, the sauce tastes like you could put it on anything and it would make it taste good. Great service and vibes here. Definitely a spot worth trying if you’re around the

Most amazing g breakfast on the island. Incredible French toast. Eggs and rice and Portuguese sausage. But you have to try the lilikoi sauce. Unbelievably friendly service. Crystal is the best server.

This was the best breakfast I had while on the island. I loved the Lilikoi pancakes! The Best! The serving portions were generous and delicious. We got there earlier and didn't have to wait to be seated. I can see why this is a local favorite. I wish that I took better pictures.

Post hike brunch after doing an extended hike past the pillboxes🤙Decided to finally check this spot out in Kailua since heard the lilikoi pancakes were good👍 Wasnt too busy on a Saturday mid morning, found paid street parking nearby (glad I had some quarters). Friendly service, was seated right away. Decided on the 2 piece Lilikoi pancakes, and ordered the Moke Nui omelette and the Homemade Corned Beef Hash. Lilikoi pancakes are worth the hype👍 and overall we were satisfied with what we ordered. Prices were on the high side but thats the price of paradise🤙 Food was more than enough to share for 2 people, we ended up bringing a decent amount left home too. 5 stars.
