Kim Chee Restaurant (1020 Keolu Dr)
About
A Neighborhood Staple in Enchanted Lake
Tucked away in the Enchanted Lake area of Kailua, this local favorite serves as a reliable go-to for those craving honest, no-frills Korean comfort food. Unlike the bustling tourist spots of Honolulu, this spot feels like an extension of a family kitchen. The air is often filled with the savory, pungent aroma of fermenting cabbage and sizzling garlic, grounding visitors in the authentic traditions of Korean home cooking.
The Flavor Profile
The signature here is, unsurprisingly, the house-made kim chee, which balances a sharp, spicy kick with a crunch that satisfies. Regulars often congregate here for their generous portions of bibimbap, served in sizzling stone bowls that keep the rice crisp until the very last bite. The bulgogi offers a distinct sweetness, caramelized perfectly over a high-heat grill, providing a savory depth that pairs ideally with their variety of banchan side dishes.
What to Expect
This is a place for the casual lunch crowd or a quick weeknight dinner when you need something hearty. The atmosphere is unpretentious and straightforward—you come here to eat well, not to linger for hours over candlelight. Be prepared for a bit of a challenge when finding a parking spot during peak meal times, as the lot serves a variety of shops in this specific Kailua strip. It is the type of local establishment where the service is efficient and direct, focused entirely on getting hot, soul-warming bowls onto the table as quickly as possible. If you appreciate a dining experience where the quality of the spicy ginger and garlic profiles takes center stage over decor, this Kailua gem delivers consistently.

This is a Hawaiian Korean style food cater to the locals. Some of the food seems American-Hawaiian and other American Korean but the food was not typical Korean food. Since I did not try the soups I would no know if those were typical Korean. The food that we had was very well prepared and the “salad bar” supposed to be the banchan, but it was Hawaiian mixed with Korean.

Got the lunch special, mahi mahi katsu and spicy pork bbq. The salad bar is free with purchase and all you can eat. Their kimchi and pickled veg is amazing!! Hot tea is free and soooo good. New favorite Korean restaurant for me!!

A fantastic place to eat something delicious on Oahu. On our way back from the west coast to Honolulu, we stopped at Enchanted Lake Kim Chee Restaurant. A beautiful aquarium at the entrance, American interior design; I would have preferred a Korean atmosphere... but we came for the food. The staff was incredibly friendly, answered all our questions about the menu, and helped us choose dishes for a hearty dinner. The food was delicious. We were humming with delight until the chef came out from behind the kitchen counter to watch us, and we watched him. Masterpiece! We'll definitely be sending everyone here.
