A Breakfast Icon in the Heart of Kailua

If you find yourself wandering through the Windward side of Oahu, the scent of caramelized sugar and fresh-pressed coffee serves as an unofficial compass pointing toward Cinnamon's Restaurant. This local institution has built its reputation on a foundation of comfort and consistency, grounding itself in the relaxed rhythm of Kailua town. The atmosphere here is unpretentiously island-style—expect bright, open spaces where the sound of clinking silverware harmonizes with the low hum of chatter from morning surfers and local families.

The Guava Chiffon Legacy

The kitchen is synonymous with its legendary Guava Chiffon pancakes. These hotcakes are drenched in a signature light pink glaze that captures the essence of tropical fruit without veering into cloying sweetness. For those seeking something savory, the Kalua pork eggs benedict offers a distinct local spin on a brunch staple, pairing smoky, slow-cooked meat with a perfectly hollandaise-topped muffin. It is the kind of menu that demands a slow morning, though keep in mind that the popularity of these dishes means the dining room can get quite bustling by mid-morning, particularly on weekends.

Local Character

Stepping inside, you are greeted by staff who treat regulars like neighbors. While the interior leans toward the functional, the experience is defined by the plate rather than the decor. Be prepared for a bit of a wait if you arrive during the peak breakfast rush, but the steady stream of locals and visitors alike suggests that the wait is part of the ritual. Whether you are fueling up before a trek to Lanikai Beach or looking for a classic Hawaiian breakfast experience, this spot remains a cornerstone of the Kailua dining scene.

We recently stopped by Cinnamon's Restaurant in Kailua for breakfast with the family. It delivered exactly what we were hoping for: generous portions of Hawaiian-inspired comfort food in a cozy, welcoming spot. Located right in Kailua town, the vibe is relaxed with nice island decor that makes it feel like a local favorite rather than a tourist trap. Service was friendly and efficient even during what seemed like a busy morning (weekday holiday). We went all-in on their classics and specials: The Mac Nut Mahi Mahi Eggs Benedict was a standout. Perfectly poached eggs, rich hollandaise, and that fresh island fish with a nice crunch from the nuts and crispy batter– it felt elevated but still comforting. The omelet (we went with one of their loaded options) was fluffy and packed with flavor. Cinnamon's does omelets right with generous fillings and solid sides (home fries - sliced, seasoned potatoes) Side order of Pork hash hit the spot – savory, well-seasoned, and satisfying. Their hash variations (like the pork or kalua options) are hearty and pair perfectly with eggs. Guava pancakes – absolute must-order! Light, fluffy, with that signature guava chiffon topping that brings the perfect sweet-tart Hawaiian twist. These are famous for a reason and disappeared quickly at our table. Staff were nice enough to bring an extra side of guava chiffon. Loco moco was classic and excellent – rice, beef patty, gravy, eggs, and all the comforting sides. Big portions! Everything came out hot and fresh, with large servings that easily fed our crew. Prices are reasonable for the quality and quantity, especially compared to some Waikiki spots. The coffee was solid too (heard it was their house blend with Kona). If you're in the Kailua area looking for a reliable, delicious breakfast or brunch, Cinnamon's is worth it. Highly recommend the Benedicts (lots of options), pancakes, and loco moco. We'll definitely be back – maybe next time for lunch or one of their weekly specials. Great local gem! Pro tip: Arrive early or be prepared for a short wait on weekends. Parking is really tough in this professional complex.

Everything we tried was delicious! We ordered the mango-stuffed French toast, carrot pancake, and the weekly special—the fried chicken loco moco—and each dish was fantastic. The portions were generous and definitely worth sharing. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed happy to be there, which made the experience even better. The restaurant also has both indoor and outdoor seating, and the atmosphere is charming and inviting. It is on the pricier side, but the large portions and quality of the food made it worthwhile. We’ll definitely be back!

It has strong Hawaiian diner vibes. Good prices and huge portion sizes. The food is NUTS I ordered two single pancakes to try them and they were the size of my hands, both the guava chaffron and the cinnamon For me I love cinnamon so it was definitely the winner. I also ordered the lechon moco loco, also crazy delicious. Perfect post morning swing breakfast expience. If you're hungry and have a sweet tooth this place will satisfy you.

If you show up hungry at Cinnamons Restaurant, you are about to get humbled by portion sizes. There is a metered parking lot nearby which makes it fairly easy to find a spot. Inside seating is comfortable and there is also outdoor seating if you want some fresh air, just be ready to share your table with a few very interested flies. Food comes out pretty fast which is impressive considering how big the plates are. Everything leans hearty and filling, the kind of breakfast that makes you question your life choices halfway through but you keep going anyway. We ordered the Kailua pork loco moco, traditional loco moco, fried chicken eggs benedict, blueberry pancakes, and cinnamon pancakes. Every plate came out massive and loaded. The loco mocos were rich and filling, the fried chicken eggs benedict was a standout, and the pancakes were thick, sweet, and easily shareable unless you are feeling ambitious. For a family of four we spent about $150 which feels like a lot until the food arrives and you realize you could probably feed a small team with what is on the table. Overall Cinnamons is great if you want big portions fast service and a classic local breakfast spot. Come hungry bring backup and maybe sit inside if you are not in the mood to battle flies for your pancakes.

Cinammons restaurant Kailua location is on the other side of the island from their now closed previous Ilikai location. Inside seating is nice and cozy and they have patio seating in the central part of the plaza. We ordered primarily breakfast options and all of them were delicious. The skillet platter was good but one egg does not even out the rest of the meal. Should have at least two eggs for their skillet platter. French toast with mango fruit and whipped cream was good. The vegetarian eggs Benedict with spinach, onions and hollandaise sauce was good. Only downside was service was fairly slow and food took a long time to come out. However, overall the food was good and we had a great time. Bathrooms are shared with the plaza and are on the second floor. Parking is located in the plaza parking lot and paideter parking available on the surrounding streets.
