About
A Relaxed Slice of Kailua Life
Stepping into 22Kailua feels like a deliberate shift into local island time. Located right in the vibrant core of Kailua, this spot captures the breezy, casual spirit of the Windward side. It is the kind of place where sandy sandals are expected and the pace is dictated by the trade winds rolling off the Koʻolau mountains.
The Flavor of the Windward Coast
The menu leans heavily into fresh, approachable Hawaiian comfort food. You will find that the local sourcing shines through in dishes that favor bold, bright flavors over complexity. Whether you are grabbing a quick midday fuel-up or settling in for a casual pau hana, the focus remains on quality ingredients prepared without unnecessary pretense. Expect generous portions of poke bowls and hearty plates that reflect the culinary heritage of Oahu.
What to Expect When You Visit
The atmosphere is bright and unpretentious, featuring an open-air concept that invites the ocean air inside. It is an ideal setting for those who appreciate a straightforward, honest meal after a morning at Lanikai Beach or a hike up the Pillbox trail. Keep in mind that seating can fill up quickly during peak lunch hours, especially when the local crowd spills out from nearby offices. Parking in this bustling section of town requires a bit of patience, but the proximity to the town’s main thoroughfare makes it a convenient stop for locals and visitors alike. Listen for the faint hum of local chatter and the clatter of plates—it’s the authentic soundtrack of a community gathering spot.

Vastly enjoyed the dishes and the chef's service to accommodate for my Mom's tastes. If you have a chance, definitely take the time to make the reservation and don't forget to BYOB!

A very cozy Omakase experience! The sushi is super fresh and you can feel the Chef’s creativity. The restaurant allow you to bring in your own beverages, another plus.

One of the 3 best omakases I’ve had the in US along with Uchi in Austin and Sushi Nakazawa in DC — this might be the best. The place is cozy, so the omakase almost felt like a private dining experience. Every single fish was fresh and delicious. The items are nonstop — amazing dish after dish. My favorite non-nigiri item was a broth steeped with a prawn. No words can further describe the experience — go try it. Thank you, Chef Kijima!
