Zippy's - Kahului (Hookele St)
About
A Maui Institution for Local Comfort
When you step into this Kahului staple near the airport, you aren't just grabbing a meal; you are participating in a local tradition that defines Hawaiian comfort dining. The air inside is thick with the scent of simmering beef stew and that unmistakable aroma of freshly fried chicken, a scent that has comforted locals for generations.
The Flavor of Hawaii
The menu is anchored by the legendary Zip Min, a noodle soup that serves as the gold standard for late-night cravings or a rainy afternoon boost. Their chili—often served over rice or in a 'Zip Pac' bento—carries a distinct, mildly spiced flavor profile that inspires fierce loyalty among residents of Maui. The portions are substantial, designed for those who appreciate high-calorie, high-reward Hawaiian soul food.
What to Expect
The dining room maintains a fast-paced, functional energy. It is the kind of place where you hear the persistent clatter of trays and the low hum of commuters planning their next move across the island. While the interior is brightly lit and utilitarian, the efficiency is unmatched. Be prepared for a bit of a scramble during peak lunch hours when the workforce from the surrounding industrial area descends for their daily fix. It is loud, it is busy, and it is entirely unpretentious. If you are looking for a place that feels like the real pulse of Kahului, this is where the locals go to eat without any fuss.

Arriving around 9pm, While there were over 25 boots free, we were told to wait for 20min...hence the one star for service. afterwards we had to wait for 10min before being seated in one of the many empty boots.... for the rest it was as expected of a fast food company. Quick drinks and foods, in short, when you are hungry at times many other places are closed this Zippy is ok for a later snack.

Food: 6/10 () Service: 10/10 Atmo: 7/10 Food was OK. My stomach was bubbly for a few hours. Taste was fine, didn't taste like quality. Service was the best part - so friendly and helpful

Whenever I visit Maui, a stop at Zippy's is always a must for me. The food is consistently delicious, and their menu is incredibly extensive—filled with everything from flavorful appetizers to hearty main dishes and irresistible desserts. There’s truly something for everyone, no matter what you’re craving. I also love the flexibility they offer, whether you choose to dine in traditionally or go with their convenient self-serve option. It makes the experience that much more enjoyable. If it’s your first time, you have to try their famous Chantilly Cake, cream puffs, or guava cake—you won’t regret it! On this trip, I ordered a large saimin bowl, and it was absolutely delicious—especially paired with their Chinese hot mustard for that extra kick. Highly recommend stopping by—you’ll definitely leave satisfied!

My noodles were amazing! Our server was so wonderful. Filled us in on the Wrecking Crew film guys that were there and Jason Mamoa's favorite booth he sits in when he comes... Apparently Zippy's is one of his favorite restaurants...

Best fast food in Maui. Incredibly big portions and very tasty food. The Chilli Moco was juat perfect and so was the Zip Pac Deluxe. Service was fast and friendly. The location is a bit outdated but other than that everything was just fine.

No frills diner, with friendly staff. Every time I come to Hawaii, I look for a place that offers ox tail soup, and Zippys did not disappoint. My wife had the loco moco and it was good as well.

Teri Beef Mini Bento. Over priced for The amount, $14.25. What you will be served Is a mini Scoop rice, and a mini scoop of macaroni salad, The unbelievable part was The amount of Teri Beef served. See The picture with that beef, that is just Aboitiz one slice portion, it came with two tiny slices, under cooked, and one of the slices consisted mostly of inedible tough tendons, The meat was under cooked and it was rather fleshy and chewy In texture, disgusting! The rice was dry and hard. Large portuguese bean soup was consistent but just luke warm In temperatura. Chantilly cake was just alright, too much cake ratio from Chantilly frosting. Orange bang drink was consistent.$28.50 round amount spent. The mini Teri bento Is way way overpriced For portion served/sold. Staff was the usual, welcoming and friendly! James III, was very attenive, and thorough and friendly, welcoming greeting and a thankful bye and goodnight, and safe driving. Thank you James III!😊. The dining area with no waitresses was lacking cleaning/tidy up from the messy patrons. It was gross. This was a disappointing Zippy’s visit.

Food was good with a big serving size. Like anything else in Hawaii, price was well ehm, pricey even for fast food but definitely hits the spot.
