Wow Wee Maui Kava Bar & Grill
About
Unwind with Tradition in the Heart of Central Maui
Stepping into Wow Wee Maui Kava Bar & Grill offers a departure from the typical high-energy Kahului dining scene. This is a space dedicated to the slow-paced, grounding ritual of kava. The atmosphere leans toward the laid-back, community-focused side of island living, where the hum of conversation replaces loud music and the lighting remains dim enough to encourage genuine relaxation.
Authentic Roots and Island Flavors
Known primarily as a sanctuary for those seeking premium kava, the establishment balances its beverage menu with a selection of grill-focused comfort food. Whether you are grabbing a bowl of traditional kava or sampling their locally inspired menu items, the focus is on simplicity. You will notice the rich, earthy scent of the kava root permeating the room, providing a distinct sensory experience that anchors the visit.
A Local Hideaway
Located conveniently for those traversing through the central hub of the island, it is an ideal spot to recharge after a day of commuting or errands. Note that the seating area can feel quite intimate during peak hours, and while the parking lot can get tight, the reward is a quiet corner in a busy town. It is the perfect venue for solo visitors looking to decompress or small groups interested in a drink that offers a different kind of buzz than the standard tavern. If you appreciate a spot that stays true to its Pacific roots without the frills of tourist-heavy establishments, this is a essential stop on your Maui itinerary.

The nastiest fried fish I’ve ever had. This was the first time having bones in my flounder, and I have eaten a lot of flounder. The waitress also was inattentive and acted very strange.

Traveling for the holidays is always a challenge. Most places aren’t open on holidays and the ones that are make your day. Our family spent our Christmas Dinner at Woo-Wee Maui’s Kava Bar and Grill. Don’t let the name fool you or the location. Sure, you have to go outside and down the sketchy hallway to use the restroom. The goodness inside will leave you wanting more. My kiddos opted for the chicken tender and fries meal (shocker to nobody), while I chose the burger and fries with a side of amazingly delicious fried rice. My wife had the Kalbi Rice, side of rice and a salad. Trust me, we ALL got the clean plate award for every. The food was fresh, delicious and truly made with love. There was NFL and NBA games on the big screens, and there was a very festive atmosphere. If you happen to be in the area, please consider Woo-Wee Maui’s Kava Bar and Grill, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

Lively and fun restaurant + bar! One of the only restaurants opened until midnight on the island. Staff is friendly and the food is great. Recommend the fried rice!

Seemed to be short staffed only saw two people. One waitress who was also the bar tender. If its a party of more than 4 they add the gratuity automatically. Restroom is around the corner. Food was ok

Not sure what's going on here. I think it is Korean influenced or either the owner is Korean. But they are going for this Hawaiian eatery that does random things, but perhaps doesn't get anything right. The bright spot for Wow-Wee was our server. Very attentive, very kind, very fast, etc. The food was really bland. The Loco Moco was perhaps the largest disappointment. Completely tasteless. No sense of umami at all. All the meat was relatively tough. Perhaps the only saving grace was the fried mandoo which I'm convinced was not made by them - purchase frozen, etc. If you are looking for a place to get hammered with soju, perhaps this is it. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother.

Calamari was so good. Stopped in for the kava and it makes your tongue and throat numb and I would do this again for sure. Bar tender was great to talk to, thank you.

Went there for a good fast tasty meal. You can order individual meals or family style. We chose family style and ate the cake noodles w/beef broccoli (great flavors especially with the cake noodles) and clams w/black bean sauce (cooked w/onions, carrots, green peppers in black bean sauce. It's salty and spicy w/a hint of sweet and is the flavor to Chinese food). Both dishes were delicious in it's own means. Amber was the quickest with our good eats and the utmost friendliest!!

S topped in after landing in Kahului. It wasn’t too busy, but the karaoke section made it pretty loud (which makes sense—it’s a bar). We ordered the bacon avocado burger, which uses Maui beef. The texture was a bit different but tasted good. The only downside was the raw onions, which didn’t add much to the burger. We also tried the Mahi Mahi wrap, and it was disappointing. It mostly consisted of hard lettuce chunks with a small amount of chopped-up Mahi Mahi that lacked flavor and didn’t taste fresh. Keeping the fish in whole strips might have made a big difference. The fries on the side were crispy and hot—nothing special but decent. As for drinks, we tried the canned Kava, which was $12 and tasted more like an energy drink based on the ingredients. The “fresh” Kava was actually a powder mix and cost $24, so we skipped it. Our bill comes out closer to $60. Overall, the experience was okay, but the food could use some improvement.

Wow-Wee Maui's Kava Bar & Grill delivers quality fish and seafood affordably. Had some really fresh sushi rolls, plates and pupu appetizers. Called in for a table for thirteen and the staff was friendly and helpful. They were able to sit us in the Birthday section. Time to celebrate! A few pupu apps, drinks and we're ready for entrees. Locals raved about their specials so we ordered the Katsu, a fresh light and crunchy breading on choice of chicken, fish or pork. The pork belly is outrageously delicious and shareable. Made our own pupu platter with Ribeye, calamari, gyoza and onion rings, they all arrived ready to share. The soft shell crabs were so good that I couldn't sneak in a pic. Sushi is fresh, crunchy and rolled well. Try the breaded California, you won't be disappointed. Wow-Wee was just that! Perfect for families, drinks, apps and sushi.
