Tante's Island Cuisine
About
A Taste of the Philippines in Central Maui
Stepping into Tante's Island Cuisine in Kahului feels like walking into a bustling family gathering. Founded by Tante Urban, the kitchen serves as a vibrant homage to traditional Filipino cooking with a distinct Hawaiian influence. The air is consistently thick with the savory, garlic-heavy aroma of sautéed pancit and the unmistakable scent of slow-cooked adobo.
Signature Island Favorites
The menu is anchored by local favorites that draw residents from across the island. The crispy pata—a deep-fried pork knuckle that achieves a perfect shatteringly crisp skin while remaining succulent inside—is a showstopper. If you are looking for something lighter, the fresh catch prepared with local seasonings showcases the bounty of Maui’s waters. Expect large, shareable portions meant for those who appreciate comfort food served without pretension.
The Atmosphere
The space is unpretentious and lively, often echoing with the chatter of regulars and the clatter of plates. It is a quintessential spot for casual lunches or hearty dinners with friends. While the dining room can get quite energetic during the lunch rush, the staff keeps the pace brisk. Be prepared for a tight parking lot during peak dinner hours, but the food is well worth the minor navigation challenge. Whether you are exploring Kahului or looking for a reliable neighborhood staple that avoids the tourist traps, this is where you go for genuine island-style Filipino hospitality.

The level of customer service was top tier, even in hazardous weather conditions. Our reservation was made priority, safety precautions were in place for customers and workers alike, and the food was sensational. The manager did not skip a beat. I can see why this establishment came so highly recommended, Excellent Filipino food. We will definitely be back 🤙🏽

Had dinner here while staying at the hotel (you get 10% off). The food was okay, the service was nice, the restaurant is dated but clean. The prices are a little high for the portions. Maybe worth a visit if you are staying at the hotel.

Overall, we had a great experience. The staff, especially Leilani and Marrieta, were very friendly, helpful, and made the service enjoyable. We tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including BBQ baby back ribs, sizzling ribeye steak, sauteed mahi mahi, beef teriaki and pizza for the kids (pizzas are one small) at lunch, as well as omelets, pancakes, French toast, and bagels for breakfast. There was a good variety of food, though the quality didn’t fully meet our expectations. We had vouchers due to a flight cancellation, had to stay two days at the hotel and the restaurant staff patiently helped us with the billing process. If you stay at the Seaside Hotel, don’t forget to ask for the 10% discount. They also had karaoke on Friday; it wasn’t crowded, and we really enjoyed it while having dessert. The cheesecake, ice cream, and chocolate cake were all delicious.

Had breakfast at Tante’s Island Cuisine and absolutely loved it. The food was delicious, fresh, and comforting perfect start to the day. Portions were generous and everything tasted well made. Service was friendly and quick, and the atmosphere was relaxed with nice island vibes. Since we were staying at Maui Seaside Hotel, we also received a 10% discount, which was a nice bonus. If you’re nearby and looking for a solid breakfast spot with good food and a welcoming feel, Tante’s is definitely worth checking out. Would happily come back again. ☀️🍳

Nice workers. Convenient location, but parking is tight. Many of the food items are pretty good local comfort food and prices are pretty reasonable. Atmosphere is a little old, but clean and comfortable. Their mudpie is delicious and huge as well as their Lilikoi cheesecake though a little small. We liked their shoyu chicken, mac nut crusted fish and beef liver plates.
