Paradise Supermart
About
Island Flavor at Kahului’s Culinary Hub
Stepping into Paradise Supermart feels like taking a deep breath of the true Maui. Located right in the heart of Kahului, this isn't just a place to grab provisions—it is a cornerstone for locals looking for the freshest poke on the island. The scent of seasoned ahi, tossed with sweet onions and shoyu, greets you the moment you swing past the automatic doors.
The Poke Counter Experience
The real magic happens at the back of the store. You’ll find a rotating selection of poke bowls that prioritize texture and ocean-fresh quality over flashy presentation. It’s a grab-and-go setup, so expect a bit of a line during the lunch rush as local contractors and office workers file in. The spicy tuna is a standout, carrying just enough heat to cut through the richness of the fish.
A Localized Grocery Staple
Beyond the prepared foods, the shelves are stocked with island-specific essentials. Whether you are hunting for specific Hawaiian seasonings, local snacks, or just a quick drink before heading to the airport, the efficiency here is unmatched. It serves as an authentic look into the daily rhythm of central Maui life. Keep in mind that space is tight—the aisles are narrow and packed to the ceiling, which adds to the chaotic, energetic charm of the space. It’s not the place for a leisurely sit-down meal, but it is the place for an authentic taste of Hawaii that feels remarkably untouched by commercial tourism.

My favorite lechon place. This store has all the unique things I want to find in Safeway but cannot. It’s a little store but has a cafeteria style food area with so many good Filipino dishes.

This is probably the best place on the rock to get your Filipino shopping list done. From prepared foods, to snacks, ingredients, and household goods. ATMOSPHERE: It's a mini supermarket full of Filipino goods with a hot food line and small inside seating area. FOOD: Pancit A mix of bihon & yellow noodles with meat & canned (bleh) mushrooms. The flavor is on the light side but nothing soy sauce can't help. Chicken Adobo They use drumettes, which I love due to their bone and skin... Yum! In the past the flavor was very over-powered by vinegar, but has since been tamed down. Pork & Peas Great flavor, tender pork but there were hardly any peas. Mongo Beans Ahh my favorite dish here! It's a thick, flavorful soup made with chicken, bitter melon, garlic, onions and a whole lotta love. Chopped Steak This is delish! It's a twist on the local chopped steak as it comes with crunchy green beans, red bell peppers, and onions. Savory goodness. Chicken Papaya The first couple of sips lit up my tastebuds but it ended up being too vinegary. What was vinegar doing in this dish in the first place? Anyway, the slices of green papaya were firm, and they use chicken wingettes as opposed to boneless breasts which was a positive for me. Axe the vinegar please! Roast Pork The slices of pork had both dry and tender pieces, drowning in gravy, just how I like it. It was tasty but just a tad bit too salty. SERVICE: The staff are very friendly and fast. TIP: They've had some red placards (food safety violations) in the past few years so I've stopped eating here. OVERALL: Great food, good prices, mainstream portion sizes.
