Ono Teppanyaki & Seafood
About
Hibachi Mastery in the Heart of Kahului
If you find yourself navigating the bustling streets of Kahului, you might stumble upon Ono Teppanyaki & Seafood, a spot that turns dinner into a high-energy performance. This isn't just about grabbing a bite; it is about the rhythmic clatter of spatulas against steel and the sudden flare of flames that light up the room as the chefs prepare your meal right in front of you.
The Sensory Experience
The air inside is thick with the savory scent of searing garlic butter and ginger-soy glazes. As you sit around the communal grill tables, expect a lively atmosphere—the sound of sizzling prawns and seasoned steak strips hitting the hot plate is the soundtrack of the evening. It is an ideal venue for celebratory groups or families who want their entertainment served alongside their stir-fry.
What to Expect
The menu leans heavily into the local preference for fresh island catches paired with classic Japanese preparation styles. You will find that the portions are generous, often accompanied by crisp, garden-fresh vegetables and fried rice that hits that perfect balance of salty and toasted. While the parking lot in this central Maui hub can get a bit cramped during the dinner rush, the wait is usually well-rewarded once the first plate of hot, steaming teppanyaki arrives at your seat. Whether you are craving tender cuts of beef or the delicate sear of local seafood, this kitchen delivers consistent, smoky flavors that make it a local favorite for those seeking a fun, interactive meal.

Heard about this food truck on Rednote and googled the reviews as well. Everyone said they would get the steak with the obster add on. Cost about $40 total. Comes with rice and some veggies. The quantity was good for the cost. The taste of the lobster was good, buttery and salty. Portion is small but expected for the lobster tails these days. The steak, I ordered a rib eye, costs $6 more than the NY sirloin. Expected it to be better quality but the meat was chewy and had no fat on it. Looked like a sirloin and was very tough to rip apart when chewing. The picture uploaded of the steak, you can see no fat around the edges of the rib eye steak. Took it back to the vendor and they said this is the cut they get. So quality must have dropped to maintain the pricing.

This was a serious standout for a plate lunch! We ordered the steak and scallops, and the flavor was spot on. The steak had a fantastic sear; while the kids didn't appreciate the few fatty pieces, the overall seasoning was so, so good. The scallops, however, were the star—genuinely perfection in the mouth. They were silky smooth and not at all grainy. Everything came with a heaping scoop of rice and a side of fresh, crisp veggies. Highly recommend.
