About
A View of Kahului Harbor
Perched right along the edge of the shoreline, the Rainbow Dining Room offers a straightforward, old-school Hawaiian dining experience. The main draw here is the expansive window view of Kahului Harbor, where you can watch the ships navigate the bay while the trade winds ruffle the palms outside. It is the kind of place where locals head for a quiet breakfast or a mid-day escape from the bustle of the central Maui business district.
Island-Style Flavors
The menu leans into regional comfort, focusing on hearty plates that cater to the island lifestyle. You will find staples like fluffy pancakes and omelets in the morning, shifting toward traditional plate lunch options later in the day. The cooking is unfussy and consistent, prioritizing quick service for the working crowd in Kahului. While the room echoes a mid-century hotel charm, the real centerpiece is the proximity to the Pacific, allowing the sound of the ocean to drift in during calmer weather.
Things to Know Before You Go
If you are planning to visit, expect a laid-back environment that values function over flash. The seating is spacious, making it a reliable spot for groups or families needing a bit of breathing room. A minor quirk to note: the proximity to the harbor and airport industrial zones means you might catch the occasional hum of activity, but the trade-off is an unobstructed vantage point of the water that is hard to replicate elsewhere in town. It is a no-frills, authentic slice of Maui life that remains a staple for those navigating the North Shore.

Prime rib dinner wasn’t worth $70/person! Could cut the prime rib with the knife the provided, way over cooked! Fish was also overcooked and dry! The best dish was the crispy skinned roasted pork belly!

Ok, I can't say anything about the dinner buffet, but my husband and I went to the Breakfast Buffet, and let me say a few things: - The Fruit Punch was tasty and fresh - Three different types of pancakes! Regular, Coconut, and a purple one made with ume, which was my favorite - Fried Rice was yummy. As were the potato wedges - Several types of protien, from bacon to sausages to sliced... ham? Spam? Dunno. But it was good. If I had one complaint it's that I wanted more variety for the price, but the food that was there was good and I liked the atmosphere and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. It's better than some of the poor reviews it's gotten!

I stayed at the hotel on a business trip, dined at Rainbow Terrace restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Buffet breakfast and dinner were the buffet price excellent. The restaurant atmosphere is quiet and laid back. The restaurant staff were friendly and made sure all my drinks were kept full. If you are here on a budget, turn down your gourmet food appetite expectations. Where can you eat all you want for $17 for breakfast and dine prime rib and Chinese cuisine under $40? Nowhere. Highly recommended for business and budget travelers.
