About
A Taste of Local Culture in Central Maui
When you find yourself navigating the bustling streets of Kahului, the Ma'aana Wagon stands as a quintessential stop for those seeking genuine island comfort food. This isn't your polished resort dining; it is a straightforward, no-nonsense food truck operation that captures the spirit of Maui’s working-class lunch scene. You will recognize the setup by the scent of savory, slow-cooked proteins drifting through the air as you pull into the lot.
The Heart of the Plate Lunch
The menu leans heavily into the traditions that define Hawaiian culinary identity. Locals head here for generous portions of kalua pork and shoyu chicken, served alongside the obligatory two scoops of white rice and creamy macaroni salad. The flavor profile is balanced, favoring savory depths and smoky finishes that only come from proper preparation methods. It is the kind of food that sustains you through a long day of surfing or exploring the nearby North Shore.
What to Expect
The experience is entirely outdoors, so prepare for the tropical humidity and the occasional brisk trade wind blowing through the area. Service is fast and functional—ideal for residents on a short break or visitors who prioritize flavor over white-tablecloth formality. Parking can get tight during the high-noon rush, so arrive a bit early or be prepared to wait your turn in line with the rest of the neighborhood regulars. If you are looking for a quick, soul-satisfying meal that puts you in touch with the local pulse of Central Maui, this wagon is a reliable choice.

Had dinner here while staying at the hotel (you get 10% off). The food was okay, the service was nice, the restaurant is dated but clean. The prices are a little high for the portions. Maybe worth a visit if you are staying at the hotel.

Overall, we had a great experience. The staff, especially Leilani and Marrieta, were very friendly, helpful, and made the service enjoyable. We tried breakfast, lunch, and dinner, including BBQ baby back ribs, sizzling ribeye steak, sauteed mahi mahi, beef teriaki and pizza for the kids (pizzas are one small) at lunch, as well as omelets, pancakes, French toast, and bagels for breakfast. There was a good variety of food, though the quality didn’t fully meet our expectations. We had vouchers due to a flight cancellation, had to stay two days at the hotel and the restaurant staff patiently helped us with the billing process. If you stay at the Seaside Hotel, don’t forget to ask for the 10% discount. They also had karaoke on Friday; it wasn’t crowded, and we really enjoyed it while having dessert. The cheesecake, ice cream, and chocolate cake were all delicious.

Nice workers. Convenient location, but parking is tight. Many of the food items are pretty good local comfort food and prices are pretty reasonable. Atmosphere is a little old, but clean and comfortable. Their mudpie is delicious and huge as well as their Lilikoi cheesecake though a little small. We liked their shoyu chicken, mac nut crusted fish and beef liver plates.
