Genki Sushi (70 E Kaahumanu Ave Ste C7)
About
A Fast-Paced Sushi Experience in Central Maui
Situated within the bustling Queen Kaahumanu Center, Genki Sushi brings the energy of Japanese kaiten-zushi to the heart of Kahului. This isn't your quiet, white-tablecloth establishment; instead, it is a high-traffic destination where the mechanical hum of the conveyor belt dictates the rhythm of your meal. You will find locals and island visitors alike leaning over the tracks, watching as plates of freshly prepared nigiri and maki glide past.
The Conveyor Belt Ritual
The system here is efficient and functional. You can grab quick bites directly from the belt or utilize the tabletop tablets to place specialized orders that arrive via a dedicated high-speed delivery train. It is a favorite for families and those looking for a casual lunch break after shopping. The scent of seasoned vinegared rice and soy sauce fills the air, punctuated by the faint clinking of ceramic plates.
What to Order
While the menu is vast, the crowd-pleasers remain consistent. The spicy tuna rolls offer a reliable kick, while their seared salmon nigiri provides a rich, buttery bite that stands out from the standard selection. Don't overlook the side dishes; the miso soup is served hot and consistent, acting as the perfect companion to a platter of assorted sashimi. If you are dining during peak hours, be prepared for a lively, sometimes boisterous environment—it is rarely a place for a whisper-quiet conversation.
A Note on Logistics
Finding a spot in the primary parking structure is usually straightforward, though the walk through the mall entrance can get busy during weekend afternoons. It is a pragmatic, no-frills choice for anyone craving a quick sushi fix without the pretension of high-end omakase.

The “mini bullet train” delivery is absolutely the fun part, and it made this a memorable lunch stop. We tried jalapeño ahi nigiri, garlic tamago nigiri, Spam nigiri, plus a dragon roll and a spicy tuna option, and we walked away feeling like the novelty is stronger than the value. We wouldn’t call it bad, but for us it’s probably a “once in a while” spot rather than a must-do. We featured it in our YouTube video, search for “Replicate the Magic” on YouTube to find it.

Things have changed a bit since we were last here. Not only are the order pads a thing of the past, though thank goodness the little food trains aren't, but the ordering system through your phone has vastly improved. There are now complete descriptions of each item, and it allows you more easily to see your tab as you go. Also, they have a few new items on the menu, including fried sweet potato and furikake salmon. Service was phenomenal today and it wasn't very busy when we got there at about 4:00.

I am not a huge sushi fan, but there are some dish that I like from this joint. ATMOSPHERE: They're located in Maui Mall Village and opened in 2007. Its a mix of booth and counter seating. Big windows let in lots of light. FOOD: Karaage Chicken Tender chicken pieces that are lightly dusted in cornstarch then deep fried. The flavor is nil, so I dipped them in a little shoyu, which goes well with the chicken's natural juices and deep fried batter. Crab Mayo I call this "American sushi" because I'm pretty sure its not served in the motherland. Imitation crab and mayo. Plain and simple. And I loved it! Spicy Ahi My spouse's favorite, and that says a lot about this place, because he is picky when it comes to sushi! He loves the balanced flavor of mayo and sriracha. Somen Salad My favorite "app" to start with. The noodles were fresh and topped with green onions, seaweed, and bonito flakes. The tiny side cup of sauce could stand to be twice as big. Hot Dog Maki Don't make fun of me! I told you I'm not a fan of traditional sushi! This kid favorite version is topped with red hot dog slices and furikake. Yum. Shut up! Miso Soup I never order this because I can make it at home. But I did try it, and it had a medium salty broth with small chunks of tofu. Mainstream. Dynamite Scallop Mayo I had high hopes for this dish that was served cold. Yuck. I expected it to be a warm dish. The 4 pieces of sushi had a center of panko-crusted mini scallop, and topped high with more of the fishy tasting scallops, and drizzled with oyster sauce. Totally gross. Stuffed Mushrooms (3 pcs.) 3 good-sized mushrooms caps were stemmed and stuffed in a slightly spicy creamy/sweet/savory mixture of crunchy onions, mushroom stems, and imitation crab. Very tasty. SERVICE: Hit or miss but I don't expect much from a restaurant of this caliber. OVERALL: While the fun of it is to grab your favorites off of the conveyor belt, we always order directly from the server. Something about the food going round and round unprotected, just doesn't appeal to us.
