Fernandos
About
A Taste of Mexico in Central Maui
Located right in the heart of Kahului, Fernandos serves as a go-to spot for locals looking to satisfy cravings for hearty Mexican comfort food. The interior leans into a casual, no-frills aesthetic that makes it perfect for a quick lunch break between errands or a relaxed dinner with friends. You will notice the rich scent of simmering beans and roasted chilies hitting you the moment you walk through the door, a welcoming contrast to the bustling energy of Maui’s commercial hub.
Menu Highlights and Local Favorites
The kitchen here focuses on staples that favor bold, savory profiles. Their enchiladas and burritos are substantial, often packed with seasoned meats that highlight traditional preparation methods. Many regulars gravitate toward the house-made salsas, which provide just enough kick to cut through the richness of the melted cheese and grilled proteins. It is the kind of kitchen that understands the value of a generous portion, making it a reliable pick if you are hungry after a long day near the harbor or the airport.
What to Expect
While the atmosphere is laid-back and unpretentious, be aware that the space can get quite lively during peak lunch hours. The acoustics reflect the busy social environment, so it might not be the quietest spot for a formal meeting, but it is ideal for those who appreciate a place with personality. Parking in the surrounding Kahului area can occasionally feel tight during mid-day rushes, so consider timing your visit accordingly if you prefer a stress-free arrival. If you are exploring the northern side of the island and want a meal that hits the spot without any unnecessary fuss, this is a community staple worth hitting.

So disappointing. There Mexican rice was awe-full it must of been a ready made stir fry with peas and carrots and no tomato sauce. Refried beans extra salty no flavor and runny. Taquitos was soggy! Quesadillas were soggy, and too salty and too much cheese. Seems that they added salt on salt. Tostada salad was soggy lettuce packed between awe-full hot rice and unflavored hot chicken. It must have changed owners.? They should have used same recipes as other owners. Now it is really BAD!!! We tried to call and talk directly to owner to share privately but no response.

1st time eating here and I was not disappointed. Didn't even feel like eating Mexican but glad I did. We ordered the Carne Asada, beef enchilada, and chicken quesedilla. Everything tasted amazing. Definitely recommend this place.

I really wanted to like this place but the food was really dull. My pinto beans were dry and my husbands ceviche tasted sweet. Odd. The food was way overpriced for what we got. The only good thing here was the young lady who helped us.
