Amigo's
About
A Taste of Mexico in the Heart of Maui
When the craving for a hearty burrito hits while you are cruising through Central Maui, Amigo's serves as a reliable pitstop. This Kahului staple captures the essence of a no-frills, authentic Mexican cantina where the focus remains squarely on generous portions and bold, traditional spices. The aroma of simmering carnitas and freshly toasted corn tortillas greets you the moment you walk through the door, promising a satisfying break from the island heat.
Menu Favorites and Local Flavors
The kitchen leans heavily into classic comfort food. Locals often swear by the wet burritos, smothered in just enough red or green sauce to satisfy, while the carne asada tacos provide that quintessential charred, savory bite. If you are dining with a group, the chips and house-made salsa are a mandatory start to the meal. Whether you are fueling up before a flight out of the nearby airport or grabbing a quick lunch while running errands in town, the menu remains consistent and approachable.
The Atmosphere
Expect a casual, utilitarian setting that prioritizes function over flash. It is the kind of place where the music is lively, the conversations are spirited, and the service is straightforward. A slight heads-up for those driving: the parking lot can get surprisingly congested during the lunch rush, so plan for a minute or two of circling. It is an ideal spot for families or solo diners who want honest food without the pretense of white tablecloths or complex reservations. If you appreciate a place that stays true to its roots and keeps the plates full, this is your go-to Mexican destination in the valley isle.

This place has no aloha service well at least no one else as workers were in a friendly manner not even a smile , stuck a party of 5 in a small booth after requested for 2 tables to connect which no one acknowledge this , then drop chips without a friendly hello to the table ate it for a few minutes then came to ask 5 min after if we wanted anything to drink at least , ordered our food but the server forgot to ask as I ordered a ala carte birria which was for $6.50. Which i have no idea what her rush was that she couldn't just kindly repeat our order back , got our food which the birrias were spicier than the ones we'd had in the amigos in kihei filled up our chips once n no refills for my drink . Just total disappointing with their service idk if its cause its ran by underaged ppl but do better. Never again id come back to the one in kahului .

“A wonderful place for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. The food was excellent—fresh, flavorful, and very reasonably priced. The staff was kind and welcoming, and the family-friendly atmosphere made the experience even better. A spot I’d happily return to.” Maura B. Amigo’s (Maui) “Mahalo for the kind reply. Your warmth and hospitality always make my visits feel special. I appreciate the care you bring to every guest — it truly reflects the aloha spirit.” Maura B.

The only two workers that were nice and doing their job properly were the host and the busser. The two bigger women working the bar and serving were very rude and not helpful at all. They always seem to have a sour face on like they hate their job. The entire time all I heard was them slamming stuff around at the bar like they’re angry at world. We’ve waited over an hour for our food and they didn’t come to check on us or refill our drinks. This was the second time we were treated poorly over here from these heavy set women. I don’t know if they didn’t put our order in on purpose so we would have to wait longer or what but it’s never taken this long for our food before. If these women do this every time they get mad or don’t like a customer they’re costing the business a lot of money! I thought I would give this place another chance but this will be the last time I will be supporting this business. If I was the owner I would fire those unhappy servers because they’re going to drive away a lot of customers! And to those two bigger women maybe instead of eating your feelings and blaming everyone else for your problems you should start taking responsibility for your life and maybe start working out! Then maybe you’ll be in better moods!

Amigos is one of our regular choices when we don't want to cook. I typically order the daily special, which never disappoints. Shrimp crunchy tacos, birrias tacos, nachos, taco salad, fajitas, burritos, and chimichangas are a few of our regular menu items. I promise you will not be disappointed here. Kids menu is great.

Rude on the phone. Rude in person. Basically demanded 18% tip for takeout and you have to stand outside...? Food mostly edible but small portions (look at this $15 burrito.. it's about 5 inches long. Do they not know the standard industry burrito size is 8-10 inches?!). I guess the 5 chips with each plate is supposed to make us feel better. Do not recommend eating here. There is plenty of competition nearby. Go elsewhere.

I've gotten the veggie burrito here twice now, and both times, the waitress was so nice. The food came out quick and was a good size for the price. The burrito was really good (I took off the pico because I don't like onions). I'm so happy they have some good vegetarian options!

8/2023 Was blown away at this great find! Located conveniently in the heart of town and 5 minutes from the airport, we were looking to change it up. You'll like the decor upon entering. Simple, festive, quaint, and making it work. Staff is very courteous and friendly. Good mix of locals. By far, the attraction is the food. Diverse menu and very hearty servings! We ordered a bunch of appetizers, so we got to taste a lot. When the entrees came, we were all pleasantly blown away at the portions. It's an excellent bang for your buck! Oh, and the lilikoi margaritas 🍹 are the bomb, too. Up the experience with your favorite tequila. In all, a surprisingly very good Mexican restaurant and a big boy food option! 😋 😉🤙✌️
