Shiro's Saimin Haven (98-020 Kamehameha Hwy)

Definitely not the way it used to be back in the day. Service was extremely horrible. There was flies in the restaurant to begin with the massive issue was the hospitality. No good morning no hello and definitely didn't feel welcomed to the restaurant. The male server was extremely unpleasant and made no attempt to create a positive experience. There were 2 older waitresses that were a little better than that at least said hello and thank you to their tables. Then after ordering we wait. The wait was over an hour and little to no follow up on us. When asked is the food coming soon as others got their food we got no answer. The kitchen had 2 ladies and a few older males but still after an hour we received no food. No apologies or care. We ended up receiving our food after 1 hour and a half. There was a family that was there before us that ended up leaving with their food boxed up to go because they waited a long time and the male waiter was disrespectful to them . I saw him give a small takeout box for a regular plate. How ridiculous is that. Well he did so knowing it won't fit and the food wasn't even eaten due to their long wait. When it came to ours one of the flies went in our saimin and I told the guy and no apologies or concern.What if that was his one.? My 6 year old was eating that and it made me so upset we too got up and paid out tab and left too. Where's the food quality where's the old school local kine treatment. Now we get higher prices and horrible quality of experience. I'll surely let all of my family and friends know about the decline of quality and customer experience. Never ever going there again ... The worst experience... Bring back the genuine experience.. more efficient wait times and cleaner environment. No longer a place to go like it was back in the day. Be aware of the many upset customers due to no customer service. And more so all the flies and long wait . I'm sure the Board of Health would have some concerns with the flies. You should treasure the customers that come there before no one comes.

Came her numerous times before, but not for a while. I ordered the same thing that I’ve always eaten, the Dodonpa, Ultimate King of Saimins lol. It is a pretty large bowl of delicious saimin packed with a ton of toppings. For me, this was an easy smash, but maybe cause I’m a pig lol. Overall, still a cheap price for delicious food and portion. The staff are friendly and pretty fast. Lots of tables to dine at and lots of parking.

So great!! A Hawaiian local recommended this place to us for our first time trying saimin. The people here are so nice and the saimin is so delicious! We had to return twice to savor it. There's 64 different choices for saimin including Hawaiian and diner dishes- we also tried lau lau, moco loco, poi, and burgers. These were all ok but the saimin was the star of the show. My favorites were the dry saimin (noodles had excellent texture and flavor with dipping dashi broth - pictured clockwise from steel bowl) and nabeyaki saimin (steel bowl) with lots of veggies, wonton (wontons are good here), fish cake, luncheon meat, poached egg, and chicken). We also tried the medium old fashioned (pictured 12 o clock) and Japanese saimin which were great too. I didn't try the bento A (pictured) or moco loco but heard it was good. Prices were also amazing!

I hesitated coming in, but I wanted something for breakfast. I've never been here before, so I gave it a shot. The table were clean, service was friendly and refilled my coffee, I like that. 👍 Food on the other hand, it's a missed. Waffle was really dry it was hard to swallow. The corned beef, I was not a fan of either. Needless to say experience here was ok. I guess if you are craving for some waffles and corned beef hash, this is not it.

Loved eating here! Amazing saimin and had a pretty good loco moco. Will definitely eat here again. They have a variety of saimin and I wanted to try them all.

I hadn’t been to Shiro’s in a long time, we met up with a good friend on my recent trip home at the Waimalu Shopping Center which is near where I lived as a young kid. It brought back a lot of memories I shared with my oldest son. My friend and I served in the military together in Germany sharing Hawaii as our home, so it’s always good to catch up with him. My son got some Spicy saimin with mochiko chicken, I had a mini saimin with a hula burga and my friend had a beef cutlet plate. We all enjoyed our meals, they were big portions and very tasty. The service was friendly and attentive, the restaurant was not fancy but nice, and the prices were reasonable. This restaurant is another local favorite that we love and recommend.

Nothing but the best saimin in the island. Shiro's Saimin brings back nostalgia and memories growing up in Hawaii. My father used to take us here when we were young ones. The food is comforting, and satisfying. The service is warm, full of Aloha.

We ordered the Medium Old Fashioned Saimin with garnishes and Joe’s Saimin Delight with roast duck, wun tun, vegetables, and all the fixings. Both bowls were deeply satisfying—clear, flavorful broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and generous toppings that show why Shiro’s has earned its reputation as the home of saimin. Joe’s Saimin Delight, in particular, felt like a full meal in a bowl, with the roast duck adding a rich, savory depth. What makes Shiro’s special is more than just the food—it’s the legacy. Founded in 1969 by Franz “Mistah Saimin” Matsuo, this place helped elevate saimin from a simple snack into a complete, thoughtfully crafted meal. That history and heart are still very much alive here. If you’re looking for comforting local food, genuine service, and an old-school Hawaiʻi vibe that hasn’t been polished away, Shiro’s is a must-visit. It’s easy to see why it remains a beloved local institution after all these years.

This warm hearted establishment is super homey cafe. The amount of choices and variety of food.. let alone the different types of Saimin is overwhelming in the best way possible. I ordered the Nabeyaki saimin and it was amazing. You can also order how you want your saimin cook to what type of broth you want to have your ingredients in. This is a must try. The hospitality is amazing as well.
