Pancakes & Waffles
About
Island-Style Breakfasts in the Heart of Aiea
If you find yourself navigating the busy roads of Aiea, Pancakes & Waffles serves as a no-frills sanctuary for those craving classic American diner comfort with a local Hawaiian touch. The interior keeps things simple, focusing entirely on the griddle-focused menu that draws neighborhood regulars looking for a hearty start to the day.
What’s on the Griddle
The menu lives up to its name, featuring stacks of fluffy, golden-brown pancakes alongside crisp, Belgian-style waffles. Whether you prefer them piled high with seasonal fruit or simply adorned with a pad of melting butter and maple syrup, the portions are generous enough to satisfy the most demanding appetite. Beyond the breakfast sweets, the kitchen excels at local staples like savory loco moco plates and crisp hash browns that hit the spot after a morning commute.
The Morning Atmosphere
Expect a casual, bustling environment where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee permeates the room. It is the kind of place where the service is fast-paced and efficient, perfect for families or solo diners who want a quick meal without unnecessary fanfare. One minor thing to keep in mind: during the weekend morning rush, the dining area can get quite energetic, so be prepared for a bit of high-volume chatter and the clatter of plates. It is a quintessential local spot where the focus remains strictly on providing a solid, filling meal in the center of Aiea, allowing you to fuel up before heading out to explore the rest of the island.

Always pass this place when I’m in the area. Never went in until this past summer for breakfast. Saw that they serve lunch so been stopping at that place more often. Located in the Waimalu Shopping Plaza across from Safeway. I actually crave for their food now. Everything I’ve taken out for myself and family members were all enjoyable. Vinho d’Alhos, Short Ribs Beef Stew, Bbq Chicken, Bbq Beef, Korean Chicken, Roast Pork With Gravy, Hamburger Steak and Kalbi. My favorite is the Vinho d’Alhos, moist with just the right flavor. I also go for their Kalbi. They offer 3 types of salads which include macaroni, potato and spring mix. Compliments to the cooks! Prices aren’t exactly cheap BUT you get a feeling that you’re eating a satisfying, home-cooked meal with acceptable portions. The blending of flavors in their dishes is just right. This place can get very busy during peak lunch hour. Customer service depends on who takes your order. The gal who usually helps me whenever I’ve gone in hasn’t been working the last few times. She was always so enthusiastic and would pack my take-out securely after asking for my reusable bag.

The food was gnarly. Chicken had the taste and texture of being deep fried for a second time…. The next day…Two of us at separate tables sent at least of full piece of chicken straight to the garbage The waffle was plain and dry and was flavoured only by the oil from the twice fried chicken The eggs Benedict was also nasty. It simply tasted like cheap large red tomatoes with seeds. Soggy and totally overpowered flavour of tomatoes No idea how this place has the rating does Maybe used to be better?! Asked if they had a small pancake option for the baby. He said yeah we have a single pancake, what flavour. Strawberry, sure… it was a $16 pancake. It was actually the only thing I didn’t wanna barf so I finished it. But $16 for a pancake with strawberries and whip? Expensive and waste of time and money!

Cozy place at lunch time. They have takeout and dine-in options. Tried the take-out options, and the wait is reasonable, didn’t take long for our order to be ready. There’s a specials menu on the right side near the drinks refrigerator, app options for convenience, and a good amount of seating space. The TVs were turned off when we came, but it’s on when there are sports events or more people dining. The fried chicken with waffles were good. The skin was still crunchy when we got home. The Korean chicken with rice and the salad with the oriental dressing is enough for the price. Very convenient to visit if you’re looking for fast food that’s casual, filling, and delicious.
