A Taste of Aiea Tradition

Stepping into Kabuki Restaurant & Delicatessen feels like walking into the heart of Aiea’s local dining scene. This isn't a place for white tablecloths; it is a straightforward, bustling spot where the hum of local conversation fills the room, often accompanied by the steady clatter of dishes from a busy kitchen. It serves as a neighborhood anchor for those craving reliable, home-style meals without the pretense.

Menu Staples and Local Flavor

The kitchen excels at classic comfort food that defines the Hawaii dining landscape. Regulars frequently gravitate toward their hearty plate lunches and traditional deli selections. The menu leans heavily into local preferences, featuring well-executed staples that provide a sense of familiarity. Whether you are stopping by for a quick midday bite or a relaxed family dinner, the focus remains on consistent portions and flavors that have kept the community coming back for years.

The Neighborhood Experience

Located conveniently for those traversing the Aiea area, this spot offers a grounded atmosphere that reflects its surroundings. Once inside, the scent of sizzling proteins and freshly prepared deli items creates a welcoming environment. It is the ideal destination for anyone seeking a low-key meal where the community vibe is just as important as the food on the plate.

First and last time sitting in restaurant. Misoyaki Butterfish was more on the 'yucky' then Misoyaki, Tasted like eating Saba. Teri Beef was just sauce squeezed on some meat.

Our Review of Kabuki Restaurant @ Waimalu Shopping Center. Kabuki Restaurant is a Step Back in Time. Where Culture and Tradition is Alive and Well. Traditional Japanese Dishes are Made in The Time Honored Tradition. No Shortcuts. The Taste of The Good is Authentic. Prices are Reasonable $$. We ordered Shrimp Tenpura Donburi Bowl, Miso Butterfish Teishoku. My Teishoku was Excellent - Chawanmushi (classic and hard to find, not many Japanese Restaurants make this anymore. But done right it is a Treat.) Sashimi, Lettuce Salad, Simmered Pumpkin, Green Tea. My wife's Shrimp Tenpura Donburi is on a bed of Rice, with Miso Soup and a Traditional Tenpura Dipping Sauce with Grated Daikon, that is so Authentic. For Dessert, we had Strawberry Shave Ice with Vanilla Ice Cream and Azuki Beans. We had a Wonderful Time at Kabuki Restaurant and You Will Too. Hugs Wes n Wanda Anzai ❤ Mililani Hawaii 5 / 2022 Update March 27, 2024. Play pulled up in front of Kabuki and they have a big sign saying dine in is closed. But the okazuya is open 7 days a week. So I'm guessing there's no table service now only delicatessen takeout. Oh that's too bad. We like the eating in the restaurant and the service and the food, it was awesome.

Honestly, I don't care for the new set up when ordering okazu. I think its alot slower than it was before. Other than that... staff was great and food was ono too!!

I had not been here since the early 1990s but decided wanted to enjoy dinner here. Well the place was kinda run down to be honest. It needs a full make over for sure. The tables were really clean and seats seemed to be redone so it was good seating. They have full plexiglass barriers at every booth for covid safety as well. But they had restaurant supplies piled up where you could see them which is an easy fix to me. But let's get to the food... we had Shrimp Tempura and sashimi. I love my shrimp tempura and it was good. I can say I would enjoy it again if the placed got a face lift. I did enjoy the Japanese kabuki music that plays in the background as you enjoy your meal. Makes you feel more at home.

Teishoku was amazing for the price. Also decided I'd treat myself to something sweet and it was totally worth it it! If you're on the fence, it's definitely worth the time to check out Kabuki.

Bbq ribs plate was delicious. My husband had the butterfish and was pleased with its flavor. Everything we ordered was flavorful. Our waitress who was a small short japanese local young lady forgot her name but has short hair and had it up in two buns gave us excellent and pleasant service. She was consistent but gave us space enjoying our dinner. My little girl loved her ice cream shave ice! Yum!!😍😯👍

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in the Aiea/Pearl City area. The food and price are great. I usually get their 2 choice Japanese food combo. However, my favorite is their Nama Chirashi bowl. The mix of seafood types, the quality and quantity of the seafood is outstanding. I've tried Chirashi bowls from other Japanese restaurants in the area (Mililani Sakura, Waikele, Zippys PC, etc) , but none can compare at their price. See attached photos of this and other dishes we ordered. My grandson had the kiddie plate, and the others were 2 x combo teshokus. Mine was the last Nama Chirashi.
