A Steaming Bowl of Comfort in the Heart of Aiea

Stepping into Ichiriki Japanese Nabe Restaurant offers an immediate transition from the bustling heat of Oahu into a cozy, communal dining experience. Located conveniently for those exploring the central corridor of the island, this spot specializes in the Japanese tradition of nabe—a simmering, interactive hot pot meal that demands you slow down and savor the process.

The Art of the Nabe

The menu centers on a variety of house-made broths, ranging from the signature salty and savory 'Ichiriki Nabe' to the spicy miso varieties that pack a genuine punch. You select your protein—often thinly sliced Kurobuta pork or high-grade beef—and cook it directly at your table in a personal or shared cast-iron pot. As the cabbage wilts and the broth intensifies, the aroma of ginger, garlic, and dashi fills the air, creating a sensory environment that feels both sophisticated and deeply familiar.

Atmosphere and Local Flavor

The interior leans into a modern Japanese aesthetic, utilizing clean lines and warm wood tones that make it a favorite for family dinners or low-key weekend gatherings. Be prepared for the energetic hum of the dining room; because the space is designed for social interaction, the ambient noise level can climb as the night progresses. It is a lively hub where locals congregate for the signature appetizer, the spicy tuna on crispy rice, which provides a crunchy, cool contrast to the bubbling pots arriving at the table.

Parking in the surrounding shopping complex can be a bit of a puzzle during peak dinner hours, but the tradeoff is access to one of the most reliable comfort-food destinations in the Aiea area. Whether you are a regular devotee of their dipping sauces or a first-timer navigating the layers of ingredients, the staff is quick to offer guidance on how to master the perfect ratio of broth to noodle. It remains a staple for those seeking a hearty, customized meal in a space that balances traditional culinary roots with modern island convenience.

My husband and I came here for dinner and both of us loved it. Gabe was our server and he was great! He was very knowledgeable on the menu and gave us great recommendations. The hot pot and appetizers were both amazing. I got the citrus and peppery tasting broth and I loved it! We ordered the menu option with more veggies, but were able to get additional ingredients separately. My husband and I will definitely be coming back to try more things on the menu. Highly recommend!

It's HotPor time!!! Either you like hot pot or you don't. This is a nice hot pot place. The best part is that they have Japanese style seating as well as western style seating. If you chose the Japanese style you must take your shoes off so be prepared. Personally I prefer an all you can eat hot pot, This is not that. Because of that it can get a bit pricey, Be prepared to spend some money. All in all it's a good pleasant atmosphere with attentive staff. You can have what you want and can order extra. It's possible to walk away full but you are going to pay for it.

Went here with a couple friends for the first time and it is fairly expensive, looking at the prices, luckily the lead of the bridal party was paying since she made the reservation, otherwise this is one place I wouldn't have been able to touch for a while. As for the food, it's good. It's just your simple hot pot, we went for the basic ichiriki soup base with the PorkZilla Nabe.
