Grill Your Way Through Aiea

Walking into Gen Korean BBQ House in the heart of Aiea offers an immediate sensory shift. You are greeted by the hum of high-energy music and the unmistakable, delicious scent of marinated meats charring over tabletop grills. This isn't a place for a quiet, whispered conversation; the atmosphere is vibrant, loud, and perfect for groups looking to power through an all-you-can-eat feast.

The Art of the Endless Grill

The signature experience here is the sheer variety of cuts. From the thinly sliced beef brisket that hits the grill with a loud hiss to the spicy pork bulgogi that caramelizes in seconds, the menu is designed for those who enjoy the hands-on aspect of their meal. Servers navigate the floor with efficiency, constantly rotating plates of brisket, premium steak, and marinated chicken. Don't overlook the side dishes—the kimchi is punchy and fermented just right, providing the necessary acidic bite to cut through the richness of the meats.

Tips for the Aiea Crowd

Because this location is a popular draw in the Pearlridge area, it tends to get busy quickly, especially during weekend evenings. Parking can occasionally require a bit of patience, so factor in a few extra minutes to find a spot. The tables are spaced to handle high volume, so be prepared for a communal energy that feels like a party. It is an ideal spot for big celebrations or a rowdy Friday night where the goal is quantity and flavor above all else. Just remember: the grill gets hot fast, and the pace is set by how quickly you can manage your tongs.

We arrived after 12 and there were a few parking stalls available. Service was prompt and friendly. Since it was our first time here they explained how to order. The portions were generous. However the taste was so so. You can get better kimchi fried rice snd japchae elsewhere. The sesame oil was not flavorful and had no sesame taste. Only thing i enjoyed was the hotteok, pickled onion and pickled cucumbers. At least we tried it once, but i would hesitate coming back.

Janelle is an absolute ROCKSTAR at Gen Korean BBQ!!! Hands down one of the best servers we’ve ever had. Super friendly, high energy, always on point, and made sure our table was perfect the entire time. Food kept coming, drinks were never empty, and the vibe was A+ because of her. She made the whole experience next level. If Janelle is working, you’re winning — ask for her!!

My sister and her family love this restaurant. There was a newer location that opened near them but they still prefer to drive further to this location. This time, we had a party of seven (4 adults + 2 kids + 1 baby). We got there at around 5 on a Saturday and waited maybe about 10 minutes. Our waitress seemed nice but she must have been new because she was kind of terrible. She didn’t even know how to start our grill (turns out you need to add water first so that you don’t start a grease fire, which she wasn’t aware of. Kind of concerning). She would forget a lot of items, we’d have to ask for items multiple times (including basics like water or utensils), and she would constantly bring out incorrect items). Our grate was also never changed (again, probably due to lack of training) until we asked, since some of our meats were starting to taste burnt. Avoid the cooked menu items. The kimchi fried rice and japchae were terrible. Stick to the meats. My top three dishes were still the Hawaiian steak, honey soy beef belly, and pork cheek. So it’s nice to see that at least the quality of the meats have remained the same. It just seems like they might have a really high turnover rate and waiters don’t receive adequate training, probably due to that fact. Although I enjoyed most of the food, I think this second experience of bad service is enough to not make me want to come back a third time.
