A Southern Slice of Aiea

Stepping into Dixie Grill feels like a weekend barbecue in the heart of Pearl City and Aiea. The air carries the distinct, sweet scent of hickory smoke, mingling with the savory aroma of slow-cooked proteins. It is the kind of place where the clatter of silverware against heavy plates provides a rhythmic backdrop to the chatter of local families and post-work crowds catching up over cold beverages.

Smoked Meats and Comfort Classics

The kitchen leans hard into American barbecue traditions, serving up signature plates like their tender, fall-off-the-bone baby back ribs and brisket that melts away with a touch of tangy house-made sauce. While the meats take center stage, the sides—creamy coleslaw, baked beans, and cornbread—are just as essential. It is a hearty menu designed for those who appreciate unfussy, gut-filling comfort food.

The Local Pace

Expect a casual, bustling atmosphere that can get quite lively, especially during the dinner rush. The seating is efficient and designed to accommodate hungry groups, though you might find yourself shoulder-to-shoulder with neighbors during peak hours. If you are navigating the parking situation near the busy commercial hubs of Aiea, be patient; it is a small trade-off for a place that stays true to its down-home, no-nonsense culinary roots. Whether you are looking for a satisfying lunch or a reliable spot to wind down, this local staple keeps the spirit of Southern hospitality alive on Oahu.

First time visiting and I had a great experience! First of all, the 32 oz Screamin’ Mai Tai is MASSIVE. Definitely worth ordering at least once for the experience because wow… you’ll feel it lol I also appreciated that they have a dedicated allergy menu, which made ordering so much easier. I tried the brisket and thought it was tender and flavorful. Some bites were a little fattier than I personally prefer, but overall it was good and not overly saucey. My friend ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and absolutely devoured it. The staff were friendly, the atmosphere was casual and fun, and I’d definitely come back.

By far it was one of the best places my family and I ate at while on vacation! Service and atmosphere was great! The food did not disappoint! I fact we went back here more than once while on vacation! Their Happy hour was pretty good as well.

The portions are huge. Great food. Great service. Love the atmosphere. Loved the variety of BBQ sauces as well. Great cocktails too!

I was in the area, it was late and they were open. Very mediocre, the brisket was extra fatty (yes I'm aware brisket is a fatty meat, this was way more then i normally see), the pulled pork was pretty good, the mac and cheese was actually the best. I have been corrected and will update accordingly, the corn bread was quite goo. The extra cheese on top threw me off.

I don’t normally write reviews but today’s experience was pretty bad. We sat down and it took a bit for the waitress to bring our menu and once we were given our menu, she asked right away if we are ready for drinks and food. I had to quickly decide what to drink and asked her to come back so I could look at the food menu. I ordered the bbq plate with sausage, pulled pork and the sides were Mac and cheese and baked beans. My husband ordered the burger. We also ordered frickles. After 5 mins of getting our food, our waitress asked if we wanted boxes but we were clearly still eating. Our waitress also didn’t bring out the condiments or bbq sauces after saying she would so I had to go inside to ask. The food was pretty disappointing too! Not once did our waitress come by to check on us or even offer water. Once we stacked our plates and put them to the side our waitress came by and said she will bring the check…didn’t even ask how the food was or if we we wanted more drinks. Obviously we were ready for the check at this point after the terrible service and food and after waiting for a while, my husband got up to go to the bar to pay. Overall the food was mediocre, the beans seemed like it was canned beans and the Mac and cheese tasted like it was Kraft. The burger was plain and the meat seemed like it was frozen. All in all we were very disappointed with the service and quality of the food. We felt rushed and it felt like we were an inconvenience for the staff. This place has a lot of potential but it just isn’t there. Don’t plan on coming back unless it’s for happy hour drinks but I don’t even know about that after today.

The Keylime pie is probably the best I’ve ever had, the fried okra was phenomenal so were the brussels sprouts the brisket had too much fat other than that everything was amazing. I am just as southern as they come from North Carolina so I know good fried okra and that was beyond good. Our waitress was ShyIrie… She was excellent

Well The Hood checked out this joint. I’ll just get to it. Food The Hood got the 3 meats meal. Overall I give it average. The sausage was ok yep just ok. The brisket seemed a little dry to me. However I will give the meatloaf the win! My hoodies that were with me said theirs were good. A western burger, crab cake, country fried steak and what my one hoodie always gets when they a snow crab! So overall I give a good for the food. Service: excellent! I didn’t catch her name but she was very knowledgeable of the food and drinks! I give her a 6 star rating. Atmosphere: well ok nothing really to make me shout out but it was nice. So overall I say if you want to try it, try it. I don’t think I’ll be back when I visit again. I’ll still give it a 4 only due to the hoodies liking it. Remember to be kind to each other and your server! Foodventure is out there, now get out there!

I got a burger and my wife got ribs. I’ll say that although both were fantastic the BBQ here is absolutely amazing. Fall off the bone ribs and 6 different house made sauces you can try with them. This is an awesome spot. Quick service and great wait staff. All around 5 stars!

I had a really disappointing experience at Dixie Grill. From the moment I walked in, the service was lacking. No one greeted me, and I had to ask if I could seat myself. After sitting down, I waited around 10 minutes with no acknowledgment, eventually getting up to grab my own menu. Still seeing no server, I had to go to the bar and ask how to order, only to be told someone would come to me. When the server finally came out, she went to a table that was seated after me and took their order first. I had to point out that I had been waiting longer, and while she said she didn’t know, the whole situation just felt disorganized and inattentive. Unfortunately, the food didn’t make up for it. I ordered the brisket sandwich, mashed potatoes with gravy, and the “cornbread casserole.” The brisket was extremely disappointing — bland, dry, and honestly tasted like it had been reheated multiple times. It didn’t even resemble proper brisket and was closer in texture to pulled pork. I couldn’t even finish half of it. The mashed potatoes and gravy were the only decent part of the meal. As for the “cornbread casserole,” it was simply cornbread with cheese on top… definitely not what I would consider a casserole at all. Overall, the experience felt like a complete ripoff. The service was slow and inattentive, and the food quality did not justify the price. I won’t be coming back, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dixie Grill BBQ & Crab Shack in Hawaii feels like a comforting break from the usual island fare, especially if you’re in the mood for something hearty and familiar. I went with the 3-meat plate, choosing the pork, brisket, and cheddar meatloaf, and it was a great way to sample a little bit of everything. The pork was tender and juicy, packed with flavor, while the brisket had a satisfying smoky bite that felt slow-cooked and done right. The cheddar meatloaf was a pleasant surprise—rich, savory, and comforting in that classic, home-style way that makes you slow down and enjoy each bite. The sides rounded out the meal nicely. The fried okra was crisp on the outside without being greasy, and the mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy, and filling—exactly what you want alongside barbecue. Portions were generous without being overwhelming, and everything came out hot and fresh, which always makes a difference. To wrap up the meal, I couldn’t pass up the key lime pie. It was light, tangy, and refreshing, and the house-made sauce drizzled on top added an extra layer of sweetness that really tied it together. It was the perfect way to end a filling meal without feeling too heavy. Overall, Dixie Grill offers solid comfort food, friendly vibes, and a menu that delivers on flavor. While it’s not trying to be fancy, it does what it does well, and that’s why it earns a strong four stars from me. It’s definitely a spot I’d recommend if you’re craving barbecue and Southern-style comfort food while in Hawaii.
