Local Flavors at the Heart of Aiea
When the lunch hour hits in Aiea, the line forming at Bombuchaz Lunchwagon is a reliable indicator of quality. This isn't your polished, sit-down bistro experience; it is an authentic roadside plate lunch operation where the smoke from the grill often drifts through the air, signaling that the garlic chicken is hitting the hot top. The vibe is strictly no-frills, built for locals who need a hearty, no-nonsense meal before heading back to the office or construction site.
The Signature Garlic Chicken Experience
The menu centers on robust, soul-satisfying portions. The undisputed star of the show is the Garlic Chicken—golden-brown, double-fried pieces tossed in a generous amount of crispy, pungent garlic bits that offer a satisfying crunch with every bite. The steam rising from the accompanying scoops of white rice and macaroni salad is the quintessential sight of a Hawaii plate lunch. While the flavors are bold and consistent, keep in mind that the parking situation near the Aiea storefront can be a bit of a dance during peak hours; patience is part of the local ritual here.
Why Grab a Plate Here
Bombuchaz serves a demographic that values efficiency and flavor over white-tablecloth service. Whether you are grabbing a quick box to eat on your tailgate or taking a hearty portion back to your desk, the food feels like a home-cooked meal prepared with professional-grade heat. It is a loud, bustling environment, punctuated by the clatter of takeout containers and the friendly banter between regulars and the kitchen crew. If you are exploring the culinary landscape of central Oahu and want to skip the tourist traps, this is where you go for a lunch that actually sticks to your ribs.

Head to Halawa and grab some lunch at Bombuchaz. We ordered the hamburger steak plate and the #3 special with beef stew, chicken long rice, and pan laulau. Yummers! The stew uses short ribs which made it even better. The flavors was spot on. We went there at 10:30 so only had about 3 people in line. I've heard they sell out so get there early and get your grub on!
