Lanai City Service
About
A Slice of Lanai History
Stepping into Lanai City Service is less like visiting a restaurant and more like walking into the island's communal living room. Located right in the heart of Lanai City, this iconic spot is a piece of living history. It stands as a reminder of the island’s plantation-era roots, functioning historically as a service station before evolving into the beloved gathering place it is today. You will still see the vintage gas pumps outside, a quirky visual anchor that signals you’ve arrived at one of the few places on the island where time seems to slow down.
What to Expect on Your Plate
The kitchen leans heavily into island comfort food. If you are looking for local staples, their plate lunches are the main draw. The beef stew is legendary among locals, offering a hearty, home-cooked flavor profile that pairs perfectly with a scoop of rice. Everything is straightforward, unpretentious, and built to satisfy a serious appetite after a morning of exploring the pine-covered highlands. The scent of savory gravy and grilled meats often wafts toward the street, drawing in hikers and locals alike.
The Atmosphere
Don't expect a polished, white-tablecloth experience. The floorboards might creak, and the seating is functional rather than luxurious. It gets lively around midday, and if you arrive during the peak lunch rush, you might have to navigate a busy counter or wait a moment for a seat. It is best for those who value authenticity over refinement and want to eat where the residents of Lanai actually eat. Whether you are fueling up before heading toward the Garden of the Gods or just wandering through the quiet town square, this is the place to capture the genuine spirit of Lanai dining.

A great pit stop overall for snacks, drinks, and gas. Shockingly, the lowest price gas in all of hawaii, especially since it's the only station on the island! Conveniently located right next door to lanai car rental to load up when you arrive and fill up the gas when you leave.
